Fazilka City

Fazilka is a tiny township of religious and debonair people- a serene, unruffled, crowd-free and terror-free place to live in. It origin dates back AD 1844. It is just 11 km from International Indo-Pak Border. Popularly known as Bangla, it is the only town in the country which is proud of having its “Car Free Zone Area”, Asia’s second biggest “TV Tower” and splendid “Clock Tower”. Before partition, the town was one of the biggest wool markets of the world.

Its sweetmeat Tosha is liked by all generations of people across the country. Its conventional shoe Jutti is worn by bigwigs, celebrities of tinsel world and India’s top politicians. The first single cylinder steam ship in the world- FAZILKA is named after the town. It is situated on the rice growing and cotton rich belt of the state and one of the major rice exporting centers in India.

The town was established by a British Mr. Oliver 165 years ago. It is named after Mian Fazil Watoo- a Muslim who bought the land to establish the small town to settle his family. But, due to close by International India-Pak border, sadly, the city remained backward.  It had to bear the brunt of two wars with neighboring Pakistan. It is situated about 325 km away from its capital Chandigarh.
